Firstly, make sure to maintain a consistent pumping schedule. This will help prevent milk from building up and potentially causing clogs. Massage those magical milk-makers for maximum flow. Hot compress before, cold compress after.  Oh, and say bye-bye to those tight bras, they’re so overrated and can actually cause clogged milk ducts. Let your ladies breathe, my friends!

To prevent nipple pain, start your pump on the lowest setting and work your way up, like a gentle warm-up before an intense workout (minus the sweatbands, of course).

Experiment with Different Flanges

Using the wrong size flange is like trying to fit in those jeans from your pre-baby days – it just ain’t happening. Take it from me, you’ve got to find the perfect fit. No discomfort or redness should be messing with your milk-producing assets. So, go ahead, try on different flanges until you find “the one.”

Fun Fact: Did you know that your nipples are like snowflakes? Each one is unique and special in its own way! So, don’t be surprised if you find that your nipples are not exactly the same size. Embrace their individuality.  It’s totally normal to rock two different flange sizes.

Silicone Flanges: Your New Breast Friends

Listen, ladies, plastic flanges are so last season. Try silicone! These flanges are like a dream come true for your sensitive skin. They are super soft and gentle, ensuring a comfortable pumping experience.  If you’re blessed with elastic nipples like me, these bad boys will be your new best friends. No more irritation or discomfort, just cozy, smooth pumping sessions. Oh, and the best part? They’re durable and easy to clean.

Pro tip: line those babies with a bit of coconut oil for an extra level of comfort. Trust me, your nipples will thank you!

Epsom Salt Baths

Oh boy, let me tell you, I became a true master of nipple-soothing techniques, and let me tell you, some of them were quite messy. So, picture this: you’re sitting in your kitchen, hunched over with your boobs dunked into bowls of Epsom salt water. It’s a sight to behold, especially when your hubby is chowing down on his lunch right next to you. Talk about a hot date!  But hey, after giving birth to two kids, I’ve reached a point where shame is a thing of the past. The pain from pumping was absolutely unbearable, and I was willing to try anything to find some relief. Even if it meant looking like a complete nut, I was ready to embrace it. Because when you’re struggling with a low milk supply, and you can’t afford to miss another pumping session, but the mere thought of pumping makes you want to unleash a primal scream, you’ll do whatever it takes to find a little comfort. So go ahead, get creative, and rock on, my fellow pumpers!

Sometimes Your Nipples Need a Break

Don’t despair over the discomfort of battle-worn nipples that seem to cry out for relief. However, take heart! The key to overcoming this challenge lies in your ability to be patient. Allow your precious nipples the time they need to heal by taking breaks between pumping sessions. Trust me, it’s perfectly acceptable to skip a session if it means avoiding a nipple apocalypse. And let’s not forget our knight in shining armor – the lanolin-based nipple cream. After each session, generously apply this cream for maximum soothing and protection.
